Gene Laverty is a Senior Reporter with S&P Global Market Intelligence and Editor of S&P Global's Canada Energy Week. Since starting his career in journalism at the Calgary Herald in 1977, he has covered energy issues in Canada from the National Energy Program to the ongoing Alberta production curtailments. He has spent the past two decades as a correspondent for international news agencies and did a brief segue into corporate communications for a large pipeline company. He joined S&P Global Market Intelligence in 2014. He is based in Calgary and a part of S&P Global's Arlington, Virginia news bureau.

Social Media Task Force
This role is primarily focused on helping promote and grow our IECA social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) and strategize new marketing for the IECA via social media. 

Why the IECA?

The IECA has been a key element to the success I have had in my career. The education groups and conferences help keep me informed of best practices and what my peers are doing to address many different aspects of energy risk. Also, the IECA has helped build my leadership skills through my involvement on the board of directors and executive committee. I most enjoy the social capital I've gained through the many opportunities the IECA offers to network at conferences and events. It is much easier to negotiate when you personally know the person on the other side of the table.
