Orest Konowalchuk is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Canada and leads the firms restructuring and related advisory initiatives in Calgary, Alberta. A senior restructuring and business professional, he has more than 14 years of experience in turnaround advisory and insolvency services.
Mr. Konowalchuk has acted for businesses in financial distress in the private and public sectors and has worked on engagements involving cross-border operations, including concurrent Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and Chapter 11 / Chapter 15 filings.
He has served in a formal capacity as a court-appointed Monitor in Canada under the CCAA, as well as court-appointed receiverships, and has been engaged on multiple independent business reviews and viability assessments, with experience in the oil and gas (including exploration and production (E&P), midstream and oilfield services), commercial and residential real estate and property development, construction, timeshare resort and manufacturing industries.
Notable clients include Canadian Schedule A banks, U.S. lenders and private equity lenders, asset-based lenders, Canadian law firms, and Canadian and U.S. public and private companies.
Mr. Konowalchuk earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba and a diploma in business administration from Red River College in Winnipeg. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Chartered Accountant), Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, and Canadian Licensed Insolvency Trustee. He speaks on restructuring and insolvency related matters for the Canadian Bar Association, and is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals and the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
