The IECA Canadian Regional Education Committee will be hosting an educational seminar on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Saltlik in Calgary. Doors will open at 2:30 pm, with a presentation on ISDA 101: Back to Basics beginning at 3:00 pm. Networking opportunities will follow the seminar, featuring Saltlik’s signature finger food and a selection of hosted drinks.

Join us for an informative session on Canadian ISDAs (International Swaps and Derivatives Association agreements). This session is designed for professionals who are new to the world of ISDAs or those looking to refresh their knowledge. We will cover the basics of ISDAs, their importance in the financial markets, and the specific nuances of Canadian ISDAs. Attendees will gain a solid understanding of the key components of ISDAs, including the Master Agreement, Schedule, and Credit Support Annex. By the end of this session, participants will be equipped with the knowledge to navigate ISDA documentation and understand its role in managing risk and ensuring compliance in the derivatives market.

About the Presenter
Mark Powell, Partner, Bennett Jones
Mark Powell is the head of our Trading & Derivatives practice, bringing extensive experience in navigating the complexities of this evolving industry. His expertise spans commodity, interest rate, and currency trading, as well as equities, emissions allowances, renewable energy certificates, and other products. Mark assists clients with ISDA master agreements and related documentation, and he has significant experience in negotiating various financial and physical trading agreements.
In addition to his trading and derivatives work, Mark provides regulatory advice related to Canada’s G20 commitment to regulate derivatives. He chairs the Canadian Derivatives Regulatory Group of the International Energy Credit Association and serves on the Alberta Securities Commission’s Derivatives Advisory Committee. Mark’s background in securities law includes leading significant equity and debt securities issuances. He is also actively involved in the community, serving on the board of directors for Special Olympics Alberta.
