Speakers:
Kari Larsen, Counsel, Reed Smith
Souleima Baddi, Deputy Head of Trade Commodity Finance, Societe Generale
Geraldine Balaj, Global Distributed Ledger Lead, Capgemini
Moderator: Simon Letort, Societe Generale
Beyond the sensational headlines, Blockchain has become an integral part of our work lives as a revolutionary technology disrupting many industries and processes. In the energy sector, many players have sponsored new Blockchain-based solutions in the areas of trade finance and shipping. Blockchain has also entered scheduling and KYC processes. The industry is now facing the implementation and practical phase of Blockchain to prove the concept. We welcome you to this engaging panel discussion that will decipher the current state of play, looking at examples of operating solutions, discussing the benefits of these, as well as changes expected in the areas of legal, IT, origination and operations to fully leverage these solutions.
Session 2: Structured Commodity Finance Transactions
Speakers:
David Perlman, Partner, Bracewell
Greg Nowak, Partner, Pepper Hamilton
Arnaud Cruiziat, Commodity Structuring for Americas, Societe Generale
Moderator: Fran Lawall, Attorney, Pepper Hamilton
After a period of low prices and low volatility in the energy sector, late 2017 and early 2018 showed more lively markets, bringing both more uncertainty and more opportunities. Alternative sources of funding will be on the radar for many treasurers and originators. From working capital to CAPEX programs, companies appear to be looking beyond traditional sources of financing to spur growth. Commodity-based structured financing, in the form of prepays, postpaids or inventory carry transactions are back in fashion. This panel will discuss some of the features of these structures and explore how companies decide their funding strategy in light of market, counterparty and legal risks.
