Description

About

While carbon markets are unlikely at the federal level in the U.S. in the near term, many U.S. states and Canadian provinces are using carbon markets to achieve their jurisdictional greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals and billions of dollars flow through these markets each year. In addition to these mandatory programs, many companies are participating in voluntary carbon markets as part of their corporate ESG strategy. The conclusion of important decisions at last November’s United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP) 26 in Glasgow may unlock the potential for international carbon markets to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goals of limiting climate change to no more than 1.5 degrees C above pre-industrial levels.
